TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Bergen County lawmaker is being accused of breaking the law.
Assemblyman Bob Schroeder, 52, who lives in Washington Township and whose office is in Woodcliff Lake, has been arrested for allegedly writing bad checks worth close to $400,000.
Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa said it is a serious charge against the Republican legislator.

“Deliberately writing checks when you know that you don’t have the funds to back them is a crime, and when it involves the kind of money alleged here, it’s a very serious crime,” Chiesa said in a statement.
Schroeder is accused of writing those bad checks to two of the investors in his private business.
Chiesa made it clear this had nothing to do with his role as an Assemblyman, only in his capacity as a private businessman, reported WCBS 880’s Jim Smith.
