Van Drives Into San Francisco Bay Off Marina Green

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – One person was found dead after being trapped inside a van that drove into San Francisco Bay off the Marina Green late Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

The vehicle was reported in the water around 5 p.m., Officer Gordon Shyy of the San Francisco Police Department said.

An official with the Coast Guard told KPIX 5 that there was only one person inside the vehicle as it drove into the bay.

The Coast Guard provided a boat to create a safety zone around the area while police and firefighters responded to the park between Fort Mason and the Presidio.

Police said that the van was located partially submerged in the water and a civilian boat was trying to extract the occupant.
