Mayor Rob Ford remained quiet Monday about his impending day in court in a $6-million defamation lawsuit launched by a restaurant owner in the Beach, but allies lashed out at what they think is behind the case.

“It’s so political, it’s ridiculous,” said Councillor Doug Ford about a suit that dates back to the 2010 mayoral campaign and vague allegations then-candidate Rob Ford made about corruption at city hall.

“The only reason they’re here is because he’s the mayor and there are some people who quite strongly oppose him, and don’t like him being the mayor,” added Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday, who has received a summons to testify at the legal proceedings that kick off on Tuesday.
