Premier-designate Kathleen Wynne is rejecting an NDP call for a public inquiry into the Liberals’ decisions to cancel gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga.

The cancellations have already cost Ontario taxpayers at least $230 million, and Wynne says she doesn’t want to spend millions more on an inquiry.

However, Wynne says the government must do everything it can to make public all information on the cancelled gas plants.

The Progressive Conservatives agree with Wynne that a public inquiry would be too expensive, but are trying to link the premier-designate to the original decisions.

The Tories are also demanding a committee that was supposed to investigate the gas plants be reformed immediately after Wynne recalls the House Feb. 19. The committee was disbanded when Dalton McGuinty prorogued the legislature when he announced his resignation last October.
