Messy weather is on the way just in time for southern Ontario’s morning commute: Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Toronto and a spate of freezing rain and winter storm warnings covering the entirety of southern Ontario.
Environment Canada says all this could result in a “major ice storm” and warns there could be widespread power outages caused by downed tree limbs and ice accumulation on power lines.
The weather agency also said the evening commute may be worse than the morning one.
Northeast winds could reach gusts of 60 kilometres an hour, and accumulations of 20 millimetres are possible, the agency Canada said.
By 7 a.m., there was already a series of cancelled school buses across the Toronto region. Peel School Board cancelled all buses for Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Halton and York Region District School Board both cancelled all their buses as well.
