Half an hour after Ruslan Tsarni spoke in Boston to publicly lament the shame his nephews’ alleged crimes have brought upon his family and fellow Chechens, and to express his admiration for America in its moment of grief, his sister Maret Tsarnaev in Toronto took the opposite tack and accused shadowy forces of framing the boys.
“I’m suspicious it was staged. The picture was staged. I do not lightly trust any officials,” she told reporters in the lobby of her apartment building on the Lake Ontario waterfront west of downtown Toronto. “If somebody wants to convince me, show me evidence.”
In sharp contrast to her younger brother, Ms. Tsarnaev was defiant, saying this is a frame-up by “government agencies,” and that she would not believe anything until she saw actual proof.
