TORONTO — Ontario’s New Democrats warned Friday they were not prepared to support the minority government’s budget unless there were some changes to make the Liberals more accountable for things like the gas plant scandal.
In a repeat of their strategy from last year’s budget, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said the New Democrats want to consult the public on the budget and on whether or not they should vote with the Progressive Conservatives to force an election.
“If we don’t think the budget’s going to deliver for people, we can’t support it,” Horwath said one day after the budget was introduced.
The NDP set up a toll free phone line and a website, yoursayontario.ca, for public input, with the preamble to the first question accusing the Liberals of not taking responsibility “for wasting billions at eHealth, Ornge and the cancelled gas plants.”
