CHICAGO (STMW) — Four people were killed and at least 11 others were wounded in shootings Wednesday and early Thursday, including a 56-year-old woman who police found shot in the head on a South Side sidewalk.
Officers on routine patrol near the South Shore neighborhood heard gunshots coming from the area near East 79th Street and South East End Avenue about 11:45 p.m., police said.
When they arrived at the location they discovered the 56-year-old woman lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
The woman was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she died early Thursday, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Earlier, a man in his 20s was found shot to death in the 7500 block of South Carpenter, police said. No details were available.
