CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The Indians made their second roster addition of the day Friday, as the team announced they had picked up free agent catcher Kelly Shoppach.
Shoppach was inked to a Minor League contract and assigned him to the Triple-A Columbus roster.
It’s the second go around with the Indians for the 33-year-old, who spent four seasons from 2006-09 with the Tribe after being acquired from the Boston in January of 2006.
Shoppach signed with Seattle in the off-season and spent the first two and a half months of the season with Seattle where he hit .196 (21-107) with 7 doubles, 3 home runs and 9 RBI in 35 games before being released on June 20th.
The Baylor University product later spent July in the Washington Nationals organization (AAA Syracuse) and August in the Pittsburgh Pirates system (AAA Indianapolis) before requesting his release on August 28th.
